DINE WITH HEART MONTH RETURNS TO ST KILDA IN MAY 2017

Fast-becoming one of Melbourne’s most anticipated foodie events, Dine with Heart Month hosted by St Kilda’s Sacred Heart Mission is returning bigger and better for 2017. See the full Events Calendar here!

Held throughout the month of May, Dine with Heart Month enables Melburnians to enjoy the finest cuisine Melbourne has to offer whilst simultaneously supporting the city’s homeless. Started by the Mission to support its Meals Program, the Dine with Heart concept has grown year on year, with an increasing number of venues around Melbourne working with their customers to create memorable fundraising events supporting those in need.

Adrian Cropley, Chair of the Dine with Heart organising committee said:

“In 2015 we started by contacting a few local restaurants to see if they would like to be part of our fundraising efforts and were overwhelmed with the generosity of many St Kilda eateries from small coffee shops to the likes of Donovans.

“Only two years on and we have expanded this successful campaign across Melbourne to include even more amazing restaurants such as St Ali in South Melbourne, The Craft and Co and the Robert Burns Hotel in Collingwood, Mr Ottorino in Fitzroy, Green Park Dining in North Carlton, plus Captain Baxter, Donovans, Uncle, Fitzrovia and Roxborough in St Kilda, among many others!

“Events and fundraising initiatives at each venue vary but it’s all with the same cause in mind; helping those experiencing homelessness and disadvantage! Every day we help to provide meals for around 400 people in need. A $4 donation is all it takes to feed one person a balanced and nutritious three-course meal.”

Victoria’s homelessness crisis now affects 22,773 people, including 6,000 young Victorians who are forced to either sleep rough or couch surf. Last year’s campaign raised over $115,000 for the Mission which equates to almost 30,000 meals for people in need. Dine with Heart Month culminates in a gala fundraising dinner held on the stage of the iconic Palais Theatre in St Kilda on Tuesday 30 May 2017, featuring dishes from some of Melbourne’s top chefs including Jesse Gerner, Emma D’Alessandro, Chris Watson and Adam D’Sylva.

“The evening promises delicious food from Melbourne’s leading chefs, great entertainment and a very lively auction featuring some fabulous money-can’t-buy experiences” Mr Cropley concluded.

Donovans restaurant in St Kilda has been involved with Dine with Heart Month since year one. Owner Gail Donovan believes that Dine with Heart Month should be a staple in our social calendars and will continue for years to come:

“As soon as the Mission explained the event, we were in! We love the St Kilda community and supporting people experiencing homelessness, disadvantage and social isolation is such a part of the way this wonderful community works. Without Sacred Heart Mission, the problem would be much greater.” Gail said.

Sacred Heart Mission has a long history of effectively assisting the most disadvantaged members of our community to rebuild their lives. Since opening its doors in 1982, the Mission has evolved into an innovative organisation, sustained by a deep pool of generosity and support from the community.
