St Kilda Beach named Melbourne’s most Instagrammed location

St Kilda Beach takes in the title as the most popular Instagram location in Melbourne! There’s no denying that Melbourne’s beach side playground is an Instagram worthy destination – the beach, the events, the bustling streets and colourful locals make it hard for any visitor to pass by St Kilda without snapping a cheeky pic!

A recent article published by Escape names St Kilda Beach as the 5th most geo tagged destination on Instagram for 2016, and the most popular geo tagged location in not only Melbourne, but the state of Victoria.

Although the iconic Beach reigned in at #1, you only have to scroll through Instagram for the hashtag #visitstkilda to see the eclectic suburb’s popularity – the delectable cake shops and al fresco eateries on Acland street, the summer markets, the colourful personalities behind St Kilda’s shopfronts, the array of world class restaurants humbly nestled along Fitzroy Street and of course, Luna Park.

Sydney and New South Wales proved to be the most popular of Instagram destinations for the year, taking in 5 of the Top 10 spots. Bondi Beach in New South Wales rolled in at #1 as the most geo tagged location for 2016.

Surfer’s Paradise Beach in Queensland was named the second most popular destination, followed by Sydney Harbour at #3, Sydney Harbour Bridge at #4 and of course, St Kilda Beach.

Melbourne’s National Gallery of Victoria made a surprising appearance at #6, followed by a Sydney based cafe (yes you read correctly) – The Ground of Alexandria. At #8 is the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), followed by Sydney’s Taronga Zoo and lastly at #10, Melbourne International Airport.

St Kilda is expected to attract a multitude of local and international visitors this summer and with the Pride March and St Kilda Festival just around the corner, there’s no doubt that the #visitstkilda snaps will be rolling in. Here’s to 2017!
