SUMMARY:Drive @ Theatre Works
DESCRIPTION:Theatre Works and Rebecca Meston Present\nDrive\nBy Rebecca Meston\nWorld Premiere \n6 JUNE 2019 – 15 JUNE 2019 \n\nDrive is an exploration of fallen\, deviant women set against long stretches of open road. It is inspired by the true story of former NASA astronaut Lisa Nowak\, who in 2007\, got into her car and drove non-stop 14-hours from Houston to Orlando to confront her ex-lover’s lover. Disguised in a dark wig\, glasses and trench coat\, she had in her car a knife\, mallet\, BB gun\, duct tape\, rope\, photos of women in bondage – and allegedly wore an adult nappy so that she didn’t have to stop.   \nThis new theatrical work re-imagines Lisa’s story and her 14-hour drive\, putting the spotlight on a particular kind of female implosion that’s as old as Anna Karenina and Hedda Gabler and as recent as any number of news articles about a woman\, usually in her 40s\, seemingly the image of perfection\, who suddenly snaps\, and drives her life into a ditch. Over 50 minutes\, Drive tracks the unravelling of a highly capable woman\, filled with mess\, nuance and controlled rage.   \nThe work is situated across four worlds: Space; the inside of a car; the open road; and the realm of Lisa’s imaginings. She drives\, but in the back seat of her car\, memory and fantasy come and go\, like a dark\, otherworldly version of Taxicab Confessions. The text is blended with strong choreographic elements and a richly evocative soundscape to mine the terrain of grief\, loss\, disappointment and the ways we find hope in the darkness.   \nPushing together vast galaxies with cramped\, hedged-in spaces; loneliness with unfettered desire;
and motherhood with the requirements of being an elite professional\, Drive asks the ultimate question\, how close are any of us\, at any time\, to snapping? To getting into a car and not looking back?

SUMMARY:Prince’s birthday celebration w/ purple revolution
DESCRIPTION:The wait is over Melbourne\, it’s been over a year  and Andrew De Silva is back to invite you to celebrate PRINCE’s birthday with his PURPLE REVOLUTION Full Live Show at the MEMO Music Hall.\nIt doesn’t get more legendary than the music of PRINCE. When the iconic performer passed away in 2016\, the world mourned the loss of the multi-instrumentalist who was ahead of his time musically. For Australian musician ANDREW DE SILVA\, this loss was keenly felt. The songwriter was already dedicating some songs in his shows to his idol and it was a natural progression to band together some of the best musicians in the business to pay homage to him in the best way possible – through music. \nOn Friday 7 June\, Memo Music Hall will turn purple in celebration of PRINCE’s birthday as the Purple Revolution pays homage in true party fashion. With tracks such as Little Red Corvette\, 1999\, Cream\, Diamonds & Pearls\, I Wanna Be Your Lover and the iconic Purple Rain\, audiences are guaranteed to be on their feet from start to finish. Prince’s hits smashed the Billboard Charts and created memories for generations.

SUMMARY:The Three Graces @ Theatre Works
DESCRIPTION:Theatre Works and The Anchor Present\nThe Three Graces\nBy Laura Lethlean\nWorld Premiere \n22 MAY 2019 – 2 JUNE 2019 \n\nCarved straight from the epic traditions of Greek theatre\, The Three Graces is drama on a grand scale. With striking visual clarity and amplified physical performances produced by Melbourne theatre company\, The Anchor\, The Three Graces will plunge audiences straight into the gearshift of the twenty-first century.  \nThe Three Graces have a lot to say. They are a legacy from a different time; an artistic symbol of what humans have chosen to preserve\, what humans have valued in the past and what humans think should endure into the future. In this play\, they manifest as a public fountain and meeting place. When the water is turned off\, they become aware that the world is crumbling around them\, and are forced to decide whether it’s worth sticking around for a future that humans are failing to preserve.   \nIn the same city\, three young women are making their way in the world. They are living in a time of extremes\, with a volatile future staring them down. As woman\, they finally have the power and opportunity to lead. Yet there is a snag\, and it comes in the shape of a baby. Can women raise profit margins and the next generation\, while simultaneously treading lightly on the earth?  \nThis play is set at a tipping point\, in a world of shifting morals. It explores the tension between our personal responsibility to the future\, and our collective desperation to transform ourselves into something worthy of preservation.  The Three Graces asks: can we live a valuable life under the weight of the legacies we’ve inherited? Who has the right to make their mark on this earth? And how much time do we have left before this all evaporates?

SUMMARY:The Wonderful Two @ Republica
DESCRIPTION:For a brief moment in history\, on 19 March 2018 the world stopped as news spread about the tragic loss of Sudan\, the last male northern white rhino. However\, in light of this news\, there was a glimmer of hope among shattered hearts in the form of a bronze rhino sculpture\, titled The Last Three. Installed in New York City by internationally renowned artists Gillie and Marc\, the 5.2-metre tall artwork was launched a mere 4 days before the death of Sudan. The sculpture became a powerful memorial\, to which millions of residents and tourists flocked. \nOn 2nd February 2019\, a highly anticipated sculpture\, unlike anything seen before\, has yet again inspire millions of people to never give up hope in the fight for rhinos – and the natural world as a whole. \nRepublica St Kilda Beach\, along with world-class sponsors continue the endeavor with the launch of history’s most important rhino sculpture\, featuring the only remaining northern white rhinos – Najin and Fatu. \nOn 2nd February 2019\, Melbourne was bewildered by the unveiling of The Wonderful Two\, which offers a symbol of hope and education that future generations can do better. \nThe sculpture depicts Najin and Fatu connected in the middle\, with their heads facing opposite directions. Both rhinos are trying to pull each other the opposite way to safety. It seems their fate is stuck in place and time with only two left on earth\, and no simple direction to freedom. \nWe want The Wonderful Two to celebrate all of the amazing people and organizations that drive positive change in wildlife conservation. The sculpture is aligned with the hashtag #LoveTheLast. \nVisitors are asked to take a photo with the artwork and share it with the hashtag #LoveTheLast\, jump starting efforts to spread critical awareness. Donations to Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya will assist Najin and Fatu to live out their much-deserved final days in peace.
